When I think about the holidays, I tend to think of all the traditions I love to experience with my friends and family. We have Thanksgiving traditions and Christmas traditions, all holding a special place in my heart. And when I break down each holiday, I find myself realizing they are all built around eating a hearty meal with the people I love most.
Growing up, we spent holidays at our grandparents houses. My grandmas (on both sides of the family) would cook all day and prepare a meal fit for a king to serve at dinner time. I have inherited this gene, as I love to cook a great meal and serve it for others to enjoy. Even more funny, I now work to serve meals to those struggle with food insecurity all over Southwest Washington.
When I accepted this position last November, I was overwhelmed with feedback from local volunteers concerned about local families who would not be able to provide a holiday meal to their loved ones. As I developed relationships with partner programs and began to see the need first hand, I made it my personal mission to do everything within my power to provide this opportunity to our neighbors in need.
This year, for the first time, Coastal Harvest was able to purchase Holiday Proteins for our partner programs. We will be providing over 8,700 families with the gift of a holiday meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Reaching this goal wasn’t easy, however, knowing in my heart how many lives we are touching makes every moment worth it.
I challenged myself to find a way to bring this opportunity to our community, I did it.
I challenged my Board of Directors to trust me in finding a way to financially make this happen, they did.
I challenged my staff to stretch themselves to the limits each day to meet deadlines for each program, they did.
And now I’m challenging you, my family, friends and local community members to create a new holiday tradition by helping our local friends struggling with food insecurity. I’m challenging you to take a step back this holiday season, slow down and remember this is the season of giving. I ask that you consider joining us in our fight, becoming a voice of one by giving to our Holiday Harvest Campaign assisting to end hunger here in Coastal Washington.
I promise, with your help, we will make a difference in thousands of lives over the next year.
I would like to thank you advance for donating to us or sharing this post for others to see. Without the love and support of our community, we would not be able to provide these services. We are grateful for each of you!
I also promise to have a little fun along the way and share our progress with you. We love to get creative and show our quirky sides!
Wishing you the happiest of holidays!
